Mary M Barnes

Mary Barnes was an Interior Designer until she retired in 1990. Her love of art began when she was young. Winning a poster contest in grade school.  Involved in the arts all her life, she worked directing dance programs and workshops with the South Dakota Arts Council and the Artist in the School programs.

“ The elements of design, dance and painting are very similar, involving the manipulation of color, shapes patterns and textures. Developing a painting is an exciting journey in the exploration of color, movement and design.”

She started painting in oil at  The Bunkhouse, a ranch for artists, located in the Texas Hill Country. Many of her paintings depict scenes from the landscape and buildings around the ranch, Lake Travis and the Hill Country, as well as scenes from the Texas Coast. A painting trip to Venice and Rome Italy have also been the topics of many of her paintings.

Class and Workshops with Vie Dunn-Harr, Gay Fulkenberry, Lesley Rich. Bob Rohm, Don Ward, Charles Sovek, Robert Burridge,  Bobbie Kilpatrick have all brought their influence to her work.

She has done many commissions and her paintings are in private collections. Her art has been in  the Bunkhouse Gallery Show, Hill Country Wine and Art Trail Events, , Lakeway City Hall, The Wall Street Gallery, and Cafe Lago.
