M Allison

M. Allison is a Houston native. She has been painting and showing her work for over 25 years.

M. Allison received her formal training at the University of Houston and the McNay Art Institute in San Antonio. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Commercial Art and has used her background and experience in graphic design as an integral design factor in her works.

She usually begins each piece (quite often on black canvas) with a simple pencil sketch without a great amount of detail, allowing the actual painting to evolve in emotion and sensuality favoring deep exotic depth, light and shadow. Her styles are varied in subject matter and painting techniques and range from portrayals to impressionism to abstract often combining them.

She derives as much pleasure from painting an abstract as she does a realistic piece. A great majority of her work is loose, splashy and uncontrived allowing the viewer to develop his or her own unique interpretation of the painting.

Her extensive travels throughout Latin America and France are reflected in her images. Her works are shown in several galleries in western United States as well as private collections.

Rae Andrews

I am an Australian ex-pat, and after living on the Hawaiian island of Maui for 12 years, moved to mainland USA 10 years ago. I teach art and conduct workshops and demonstrations in many parts of the States and Australia.

In the 1990's I began a 400 student art school in Australia and when I lived in Hawaii owned two art galleries on Maui. I paint in every medium, and can really say there are no favourites for me, I see what the subject dictates and off I go.
Water and movement are constant themes in my work and I LOVE color.   Rae Andrews

Cissy Beasley

Born and raised in South Texas, I am a product of a large family whose members have for generations known, lived and loved all that is good about the rich, natural expanse known as South Texas. My ancestors and family include men and women who were or are engaged in cattle ranching, farming, hunting, fishing, archaeology, geology, wildlife and range management, and conservation. Critical to success in these pursuits is an interactive and cooperative relationship with land and water, which for me began in childhood. From my first recollection forward, I knew that a big part of my life would always be a connection with nature, fostered during frequent and extended family trips to ranch land in Webb County, and to the Texas coast.

Spending so much time in the country and on the coast, closely observing all the indigenous species populating those areas, has well equipped me to follow my newest passion - photography. I became serious about photography in the Spring of 2011; at that time, I attained a new awareness of the world around me that is full of beauty and perhaps even the miraculous, and all I had to do to receive this blessing was to open my eyes. Since then, I've become keenly aware of the details. With a camera in my hand, I emerge into the light of each day believing that anything is possible. If by way of this calling, I help others become more sensitive to the world around them, I will have fulfilled my mission.

Linda Bein

Linda was born and raised in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. She relocated to Southlake, Texas with her husband and family in the early 90’s when she began her career in art.

As a primarily self-taught artist, Linda has attended numerous classes and workshops from local and nationally known artists including Art Locke, Bennie Johnson Wood, Judi Betts, Judi Coffee, Carolyn Riegleman, and Doug Walton.  She is a member of The Trinity Arts Guild, Artists of Texas, Daily Painters of Texsas, and the Society of Watercolor Artists. Her works have been exhibited in shows in the Trinity Arts Guild Gallery, the member show of the Society of Watercolor artist, Artists of Texas yearly show at the Dutch Art Gallery, and Art251.  Linda also participates in the Guild’s traveling art show at local businesses and libraries in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. She has also shown her works in Angelica, New York and in the Bein Gallery in Roanoke, Texas. Her paintings are in private collections across the United States.

Although she likes to experiment with various media and techniques, transparent water color is Linda’s primary media.  Her love of the earth and Mother Nature are reflected in her works, even abstracts turn into trees and countryside. Even though Linda is predominately a landscape artist she enjoys painting different subject matter using a wide variety of materials. Recently she has been experimenting with equine subjects. Linda’s belief that we as people are forever changing and growing is carried through her art with different media and subjects. To stay the same would be… to be left behind.

Linda reserves a portion of her day to share her love of art with children and adults at The Bein Gallery Studio in Southlake. Students experiment with pencil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, paper mache, clay, carving, and just about any form of art we can touch, feel and work with.

Linda’s work can be viewed at Trinity Arts Guild Gallery, The Bein Gallery Southlake Studio, The Dutch Art Gallery Fall show.

She works exclusively in Oils, choosing a variety of subjects ranging from lively Pet Portraits to bold Still Life. Tempy Berg-Gilbert

I am a Texas artist in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. In addition to being a painter, I am also an adjunct professor of art history at Dallas Baptist University. The act of creating has always been a powerful force in my life. Since I was a child I have always been happiest whenever I was making something. Painting appeals to my desire to create because it allows me to respond to the beauty I see in the world around me, and hopefully bring some of that to everyone who looks at my work.

Holly Hunter Berry

Holly, born in Pennsylvania, now living in Houston, Texas, finds the world is full of subjects waiting to be showcased on canvas. Using paint and various styles of brushwork, she captures the impression left by an encounter. Never tiring of the journey of an artist, instead thriving on the adventure that the materials combined with an image mixed with emotions take her. An impressionist, colorist and sometimes abstract expressionist are a few terms that have described her work over the years.

Bruce Bingham

A professional artist for over 30 years, Bruce captures the spirit of color and form with juicy oil paint and lush brushwork. Her work is internationally collected in 14 countries both privately and corporately.

"My goal is to shed new light on an everyday moment, object or action.  My hope is someone will say 'Wow, I never realized how beautiful that was before'. I feel like that's part of what the artist is meant to do-find beauty in everyday life that most people are too busy and rushed to notice."

"The more spontaneously I can allow myself to translate the energy I feel around me into the language of painting the more unique my interpretation of reality. So I am a chaser of magic that glimmers and twinkles just beyond the surface of what I see, reminscient of chasing shimmering fireflies on a warm summer's night. I love painting in oils."

Pamela Blaies Signature

SIGNATURE MEMBER AOT

Artist Statement

I create representational oil paintings using the alla prima technique.  With alla prima painting, a work is completed while the paint is still wet.  Using this wet-on-wet technique, I often employ thin, transparent washes along with impasto texture which add depth and interest to my paintings.   The time limitation of this technique motivates an energetic pace to my work and helps to keep my inspiration fresh. I prefer to paint from life and am inspired by the effects of light and shadow in the world around me.  Black paint is not part of my palette.  I use color mixes and complements for shadows and lowering color intensity.  My limited color palette offers a virtually infinite color range and helps me to organically achieve color harmony.   I enjoy exploring the new inspirations I find each day.

 Biography

Pamela Blaies works with oils to create representational art.  She discovered her passion for painting soon after starting a family.  Her small children were sad about their recent move, so to lift their spirits she began to create murals on their bedroom walls.  She found herself anticipating each morning filled with painting.  Compelled to explore this newly discovered part of her, she began to experiment with painting on canvas.  These first steps were just the beginning of her lifelong commitment to the pursuit of painting.  She works "alla prima" style, finishing each piece while the paint is still wet.

Her studio is her favorite place to paint and display her newest works of art.  Her paintings can be found in private collections, galleries and exhibitions throughout Texas and beyond.  Pamela is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, Artists of Texas and Professional Artists in North Texas.  She has had the opportunity to study with talented and accomplished artists and has also discovered that self-study and experimentation work well for her as she continuously strives to grow as an artist.  Through dedication, study and hard work, she pursues her art with enthusiasm.  While nurturing her passion for painting, she has learned to feel, see and connect on a deeper level.

She’s a native Texan.  She was born in Irving, raised in the Houston area and attended high school in Georgetown.  After graduating from Baylor University, earning a degree in Business Administration, she was ready to spread her wings and experience more.  She skipped the graduation ceremony to catch the first flight to Europe to continue the fashion modeling career she enjoyed for over a decade.  She is working toward becoming fluent in Spanish and loves to travel, but home is where her heart is - Texas.  She now lives with her husband of 16 years and their 3 children in Colleyville, Texas, located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Dave Blow

A whole new movement has emerged, connecting ecology with theology: ecotheology. Outside the bounds of organized religion, people are reawakening to nature as a sacred sphere; a rediscovery of Native American spirituality, the Gaia Hypothesis, and the Ecological Spirituality of Matthew Fox and Wendell Berry, all are part of this phenomenon. It's rare to find a person who hasn't experienced a deeply moving and pleasurable sense of oneness with something awesomely larger than themselves just through looking at the stars on a clear night... at the rhythmic circling of the birds overhead... buzzing of bees in the blossom's of spring...hiking in the woods or on the beach.

My work is embracing the technological changes that are taking place in our culture, while maintaining my love for the beauty of our natural environment. Multiple images are used to show the magic of a time found in nature's seasons. Through the use of the computer, I bring the viewer into my poetic vision of universal harmony between nature, man and technology. Aesthetically, I am seeking to show the harmony between the natural environment and the electronic one.

Tina Bohlman Master Signature

MASTER SIGNATURE MEMBER AOT

OPS CFAI AOT IPAP WAOW

“While it’s important to look ahead and plan for the future, an artist must also be “in the moment…the now.”

A native Texan, Tina Bohlman has used the state in which she was raised as both the inspiration and the canvas for her art.  Mostly a self-taught artist, Bohlman works in both watercolor and oil medium to create her breathtaking plein air paintings and brilliant rural landscapes.  She cultivated her natural artistic talent and eye for beauty with great dedication and an insatiable desire to learn by studying works of “the Impressionists” and today’s best master artists. Preferring  plein air rather than working in the studio Bohlman is a veteran of numerous competition plein air and “quick draw” events including, Plein Air Southwest–Outdoor Painters Society, Sedona Plein Air Festival-Sedona, Arizona, and Paint The Parks-Estes Park, Colorado.

I’ve been an outdoor painter for most of my art career.  Nothing compares for inspiration and capturing light and emotion. Plein Air requires strong technical skills and a large measure of intestinal fortitude.  As the light moves, moment by moment across the sky, every stroke must be without hesitation.  It's a marathon race with the sun; spirited, emotional….and exhausting.  I love it!"

With this dedicated attitude and her skills and talent, Bohlman has made quite an impact in her field.  In a career span of nearly 40 years, she has earned more than 60 awards, including a dozen First Place and four Best in Show titles.  Her work is collected worldwide; Bohlman originals hang in private and corporate collections in 34 States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Republic of Benin, West Africa.

SIGNATURE MEMBER

Denise grew up in Springfield, MO and received her B.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, where she studied chemistry and biology. She received her PhD. from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she studied developmental neurobiology. She then received her Masters from Nova Southeastern University, where she studied computer science. She spent the 2000s working in service-based companies as a business process improvement specialist, data analyst, and quality control director before she discovered her passion for Miksang photography and became a certified Miksang photography teacher. She has lived in multiple cities throughout the US and currently resides in Houston, TX.

My photography is in the Miksang Contemplative Photography style. Miksang photography is a Shambhala Buddhist Contemplative practice that focuses on direct perception of the world, without conceptualizations; it is photography that connects the photographer with non-conceptual awareness. In contemplative photography, a synchronization of the eye and the mind is cultivated where the artist is mindful of the present moment without judging, reflecting or thinking. When the eye and the mind are harmonized, the photographer is simply observing the moment in which they find themselves and they can discover and capture the ordinary magic of the phenomenal world. This magic manifests itself as images of things in our ordinary world that are often overlooked or ignored, but hold their own unique beauty and expression.

Often with Miksang photography, the photographer will be stopped in their tracks by perceptions that completely interrupt the flow of mental activity, which freezes them in the moment. The craft is to capture that moment with the camera so that people viewing the photographs can then have the same experience.

With Miksang photography, there is no staging; no altering of the environment, the shot, or the images before, during, or after the shot is taken. What you see in these images is what I saw at the moment I took the pictures.

Nancy Bozeman

NABozeman, or Nancy A. Bozeman, DVM, is a talented, award-winning Impressionist artist. She came by her artistic talent naturally, inheriting it from both her mother and grandmother. Her mother, Winifred Bozeman, was not only a talented oil painter and art instructor, but also an "Artist of Life" in raising a family of eight children. The Bozeman children grew up on a farm in the Texas Panhandle, surrounded by animals. Nancy spent her childhood with everything from milk cows to barn cats, fostering the strongest of bonds with the cats and horses - a love she has carried with her throughout her life, only recently rivaled by the mules of the Grand Canyon.

As a young woman, still living in the Panhandle, she took art classes under Dord Fitz. Fitz was an excellent artist and teacher, striving to expose his students to a variety of artists. With his guidance the young artist was able to meet and learn from renowned artists such as Elaine De Kooning and Louise Nevelson. Having developed a deep appreciation for art in all its aspects, Nancy was an art major as a young college student at Texas Tech. Since those early days she has been able to develop her own personal artistic passion, governed by her desire to capture the movement and personality of animals, the vastness of West Texas landscapes and, later in her life, the majesty of the Grand Canyon.

Although involved in a few art projects on the side, she did not actively pursue a professional career in art until she came across Curt Walters' Grand Canyon paintings during a visit to the Pri De West in Oklahoma City.  Already in love with The Grand Canyon, it was no surprise, therefore, that Curt Walters would  inspire her to return to her passion of fine art. Since the time that she came upon her inner artist at her mother's knee, Nancy has pursued many art genres and mediums. With fresh inspiration to paint the Grand Canyon, she has found that the immediacy and the color of pastels have made them her favorite medium to work with currently.  Pastels have been a fabulous medium for the plein air works that so inspire Nancy.  The immediacy of the pastels facilitate the capturing of the color and the mood of any scene.

Artist's Statement
NABozeman strives to depict a moment in time with each of her pastel paintings; she loves the play of light and color to show movement. She hopes that you enjoy viewing her artwork as much as she enjoys creating it!

Joan Breckwoldt

I am a native Houstonian and have studied art at a number of places including the University of Texas at Austin, The Glassell School, the Art League of Houston, and the Konigs Schule in the Hague, the Netherlands.  I have studied with Steve Parker and William Kalwick.

My art training has a foundation of traditional methods.  My favorite artists
include John Singer Sargent, Edouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Richard
Diebenkorn, and Van Gogh. And Pierre-Auguste Renoir for the absolute
charm in his paintings.

I find people to be the most fascinating subjects and above all they are my favorite subject to paint. I paint from life regularly. I believe we are all blessed with some form of creativity.  I feel fortunate to have discovered my gift and have the time to pursue it.

MaryAnn Brooks Kildebeck signs her paintings with her maiden name, MaryAnn Brooks.  She has been painting for 30 years, but took a long break while raising children and building a career in forensic therapy and mediation.  She loves to paint with bold as well as softened colors and moves from realism to contemporary renditions easily.

Having lived in Texas for more than 40 years, MaryAnn feels at home in Texas, but still has deep roots in Oklahoma where she was raised.  Her first training was with oils, then she moved to watercolors, and now uses both mediums.  Please feel free to contact her to make suggestions or requests!

Janet Broussard

Janet is a native Texan and professional fine artist.  Her oil paintings of landscapes, still lifes, and other subjects have been juried into national and international exhibitions for the last fourteen years.

Janet’s artistic talent came to fruition at an early age, winning her first award in fourth grade, for a watercolor seascape of California’s Bug Sur.  Constantly painting and drawing, with frequent milestones of recognition for her artistic talent, she followed her chosen path to the University of North Texas where she majored in Advertising Art.

While working in a gallery and commuting to school from Dallas, she became immersed in papermaking, sparked by the tactile challenge of working with her hands.  Over the next sixteen years, Janet enjoyed success with her abstract collages, each one using a variety of materials including cotton fiber and found objects.  Corporate and private patrons alike enjoy her work in Florida, Colorado, Texas, and Mexico.

Always emotionally inspired by nature, Janet admired the beautiful light captured by the California Impressionists, especially Edgar Payne and George Wendt; she also admired the fluid strokes and spontaneity of the painter Joaquin Sorolla. Maynard Dixon’s southwestern landscapes appealed to her graphic sense with saturated colors and simple shapes that conveyed vast skies and distant buttes. The paintings by these masters moved Janet to change mediums and genres.  Leaving behind handmade paper and contemporary abstract ideas, she embraced representational concepts and began painting with oils.

After moving to Austin, she enthusiastically pursued landscape painting, and studied with such notable painters as Matt Smith, Scott Christensen, Skip Whitcomb, John Budicin, and Don Ward. She paints small field studies outdoors to capture the essence of the scene, and then later uses these with photographs and observations to create larger works in her studio.

Wanda Caro

Born in Puerto Rico, Wanda Caro has lived in the mainland U.S. since 1981. While living in Memphis (TN)  she had the opportunity to study oil painting with local talented artists. Her roles as homemaker and mother relegated oil painting to a hobby until recently.  Yet, Wanda never lost her enthusiasm for painting, and, now that the children have left the nest, the oils have taken over! She currently resides in Texas.

Wanda’s preference for bright, bold, sunny colors – reminiscent of the tropical isles – is a trademark of her paintings. Her art constantly explores different subject-matter, reflecting her wandering curiosity, optimism, and diverse interests.

Suzan Casey

Suzan Madison Casey discovered her love for photography as she and her husband, Scott, of 49 years hiked the mountains and riverbeds of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Texas. Each bend in the trail lead to another wide-eyed view of nature from flower blossoms, butterflies to a variety of birds and an abundance of wildlife. Atop the mountains and through the valleys, life unfolded the splendor of God's creation. Her love for photography began those many years ago.

Back home in West Texas, nestled on her porch swing, Suzan is surrounded by flowerbeds filled with spring, summer and fall blossoms. The beds overflow into the water garden brimming with aquatic life. From the brilliant Oriole to the tiny Cabbage White butterfly, abundance of wildlife comes to enjoy this peaceful environment. These amazing views have captivated her heart as she captures them one shutter click at a time.

Enjoying the cowboy lifestyle with her husband has added numerous hours to her photography adventures. The photo shoots with Scott and his horse Alice have spread across an array of venues. From pasture lands to arenas, it is the free spirit of the open range that draws her attention and keenness for each photo art she creates through her lens.

Suzan shares her love, joy, and passion for God's creations in every piece of her photo art. From her heart to yours, may you feel the grace and magnificence of her photography as she shares her treasures with you.

Suzan has recently released her first book entitled "Where Hope Lives." It is available through Amazon.com.

Robin Cheers

Texas-based painter, Robin Cheers’ gift is her ability to bring a magnifying glass to life’s simple moments. Her paintings encourage us to appreciate the extraordinary stories that are told in the most ordinary of circumstances.

“To discover and share the hidden treasures of everyday moments is the goal of my work. Light and gesture are my inspiration. I paint quickly - alla prima - because its the most instinctive way for me to work and capture that moment of pure inspiration. My paintings have become a visual diary of  my life. In the summer, I turn to paintings of the beach, farm markets, horse shows and  swimming holes. Other seasons find me in the city, frequenting coffee houses and museums, and gathering material and inspiration from each stop along the way.”

Robin's subject matter invites people to stop and explore, while painterly brushwork speaks to the fleeting moments she captures on canvas. Working from sketches, paint studies and photos, she paints with immediacy, preferring to finish a painting in one session, leaving out details and allowing the viewer to interpret the story to their own ends.

Born in Ohio in 1969, her family moved quite often while Robin was growing up; creative play and art helped her adjust to new situations. Robin graduated in 1991 from Virginia Tech where she studied public relations and graphic arts - balancing the practical with the creative. She worked as a graphic artist and web designer in the years following college, moving once more to her current home in Austin in 1994. She studied painting at night in intensive classes with Elizabeth Locke until 2001 when she became a full time fine artist. Studies with Kim English, Peggi Kroll Roberts and Ken Auster, as well as studying the impressionist masters from long ago, have continued to inform her work.

Randall Cogburn

As an oil painter for over four years now and live near the city of Alvin, TX. I first started as someone who grew to love going to places to sketch and paint as a way of getting outdoors and enjoying life. It soon became a habit I enjoyed so much as it switched a light bulb on. I was soon immersed into painting that after a year's worth or hard work, I had enough paintings to make a book of Seascape paintings.

These days I'm painting almost everyday. My main subject is seascapes and anything related. What follows are landscapes and to help fill in the gaps and keep things interesting I sometimes do still life's and the figure. I do teach workshops for plein air painting as well as some studio type workshops and my larger works can be seen in Galleries in Galveston.

Susan Moss Cooper

Susan Moss Cooper began painting in oils at a young age under the instruction of her grandmother, Leola Moss (1909-2007), a nationally recognized award-winning painter. Susan’s grandmother, Leola began painting in 1938. She studied under early Texas artist Vivian Aunspaugh for 10 years. She also studied with Jessie Davis, Ramon Froman and gave art demonstrations to the Frank Reaugh Art Club. Frank Reaugh and Vivian Aunspaugh are the pioneers in bringing professional art to Dallas during the early 1900′s and Leola played a key role in the Dallas art scene during her career, exhibiting at Joseph Sartor Galleries on several occasions, as well as her own gallery, 3020 McKinney.*

Susan's style is influenced by these early Texas artists, especially her grandmother. Like her predecessors, she prefers to paint from life and often paints en plein air. Her focus has been figurative work as well as landscapes from her travels throughout Europe and the Southwest. “Painting on-site brings so many other elements to a piece. The work is the result of my reaction to what I’m experiencing in the moment – the temperature, the wind, the light, indescribable qualities that come out in the painting. I’m more concerned with capturing the spirit of a place and my response to it rather than the exact color or duplication of what I see.”

She has taken workshops with Kim English and Lesley Rich. Other noted artists Susan has studied with include Jeanette LeGrue, Gordon Fowler and Suzanne Kelly Clark.  Her work has been shown in The Women’s Museum, The Dallas Contemporary, The Museum of Biblical Art, galleries in Dallas and Santa Fe and can currently be seen in the collection of the Dallas Convention Center Hotel, the Omni.  She is an award-winning painter and her work is represented in many private collections across the country. She has painted “live” at several venues, including the Belo Mansion, the Mansion on Turtle Creek, and the Colonial Country Club.

Susan was born in Dallas, Texas, where she currently resides. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, American Women Artists, Outdoor Painters Society and she is a founding member of Tutti i Lunedi, a plein air group documenting Dallas historical sites. She lives in Dallas with her husband Rob, six year old son Tres, a border collie named Sudie and two cats.

As the song line from “Young at Heart” goes, ‘Life gets more exciting with each passing day . . . .’ And this is certainly true when we’re doing art. We can never run out of new avenues to explore.”

Joetta Currie

Joetta was raised on a small farm in Kentucky.  When she wasn’t shellin’ peas or feedin’ the chickens, she was drawing pictures for the outhouse wall.  It wasn’t ideal gallery space, but it did provide a captive, even contemplative audience.

In the early years, she worked as a narrative artist, telling a small story while entertaining with vivid color and the malleable composition of the female form, using humor as she would color, line or shape; to suggest, expose and define a dichotomy of ideas, prejudices and predilections.

Currie's work evolved and now takes an introspective view of herself and life's impressions. A rich palette and a gentler sense of humor, reveal beautifully executed images that explore the organic nature of life.

Joetta also creates mosaic art from stained glass and found objects.

"The clicking of the cutters and puzzling of shapes, are cathartic.  Once the idea and composition are resolved, I can place tessera while thinking of my next work of art.  I can't do that while painting."

For the past twenty years, Currie has owned ArtVentures Studio, an art school for children and teens.  She also writes and illustrates children’s stories under the pen name, Josey Etta.

Lori Cusick

About the artist

“I am an artist; I have always been an artist. As far back as my memory serves, creating art has liberated me from life’s daily struggles. The concept of time passing becomes an abstraction when I am immersed in creating.”

In 2002, Lori decided to follow her life’s passion and recommitted herself to painting. At this time, she first engaged in en plein air painting. “The challenges presented by painting nature while being part of that nature have taught me a tremendous amount about studying light and manipulating paint.” The one constant through her paintings: her energetic spontaneous brushstroke, applying paint with a confident contemporary approach.

Lori resides in Dallas, a long way from the mountains of New York where she was born and raised. She attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, earning a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. Over the following years, Lori successfully pursued a career as a commercial artist designing for advertising agencies and running her own design studio. She is currently Design Director for the award-winning Private Clubs magazine. You see the influence of her commercial career in her exciting compositions … silhouettes of the world.
